Abstract
These Regulations are here setting the complete food safety related rules and provisions as regards the controlled and safe use of preservatives in food and foodstuff.
Contents of this text are divided into 13 sections as follows: Title and Commencement (1); Interpretation (2); Exemptions (3); Sale etc of food containing preservatives (4); Exemptions (5); Sale, advertising and labelling of preservatives (6); Food for babies and young children (7); Sampling and analysis of citrus fruits (8); Condemnation of food (9); Penalties (10); Defences (11); Application of various sections of the Act (12); Revocation of LN. no. 2 of 1980 (13).
Schedules 1-4 are also part of this publication (list of permitted preservatives; list of articles of food which may contain permitted preservative and the nature and proportion of permitted preservative in each case; guidelines on labelling of permitted preservatives; and guidelines on sampling of citrus fruit treated with biphenyl, 2-hbydroxybiphenyl or sodium biphenyl-2-yl oxide).
This text also involves the provisions contained in the Council Directive 65/66/EEC of 26 January 1965 laying down specific criteria of purity for preservatives authorized for use in foodstuffs intended for human consumption.
