Abstract
This Act provides for the protection of birds. It shall be forbidden to take, sell, send, or have in possession of protected birds or eggs of a protected bird. "Protected birds" is defined in section 1 as any bird other than a farmyard or domestic bird, or a bird that has been imported and that since importation has remained in captivity, birds bred in captivity that have remained in captivity, birds in captivity in aquariums, and some specified species. The Minister responsible for conservation services may issue a license under section 3, exempting the holder from provisions of section 2. The Minister may order destruction of protected birds for purposes of protection of agriculture, fisheries, or public health (sect. 4). When it appears to the Minister that any land is especially suited for feeding and nesting of protected birds or is otherwise important as habitat for such birds he may declare such land to be a nature reserve (sect. 5). Section 6 prohibits specified activities in reserves.
