Abstract
The present Greenland Home Rule regulation on fox protection set rules for hunting and trapping polar foxes (Alopex lagopus). It allows only residents with a valid hunting license to hunt them, prohibiting hunting during the closed season from May 15 to September 15, and restricts weapons to non-automatic rifles and shotguns. Traps have to ensure instant killing and be designed to prevent birds of prey from accessing bait. Motor vehicles, including snowmobiles, are banned for fox hunting. The government can grant exemptions for scientific or special purposes, and violations can lead to fines, confiscation of catch, or equipment. Local councils, with district doctors, can request adjustments to protection periods.
