Abstract
The present Greenland Home Rule regulation sets rules for the protection and regulated hunting of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) in Greenland. It defines quotas, hunting seasons, licensing procedures, and restrictions, including a total ban on disturbing hibernating bears and hunting mothers with cubs. Only licensed professional hunters may participate in the quota-based hunts, with specific guidelines on methods (e.g., use of rifles only, no motor vehicles), reporting, and sale of bear parts. The regulation also allows for scientific exemptions and provides penalties for violations, including fines and confiscation.
