Abstract
These Regulations are here providing for the complete food safety related issues as regards the permitted, safe and controlled use of sweeteners in food and foodstuff, on the territory of Gibraltar (not relevant for export, rules to be observed only for internal trade, use and import).
Contents of this text are divided into 11 sections as follows: Title and Commencement (1); Interpretation (2); Exemptions (3); Sale and importation of food containing added sweeteners (4); Sale, importation and advertisement of sweeteners (5); Food for babies and young children (6); Labelling provisions (7); Condemnation of food (8); Penalties (9); Application of various sections of the Act (10); Revocation (11).
Schedule 1 is also part of this publication (list of permitted sweeteners; specific purity criteria for permitted sweeteners; and list of general purity criteria applicable to permitted sweeteners except where otherwise provided by specific purity criteria).
This text further involves the provisions contained in Council Directive 74/329/EEC of 18 June 1974 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners and gelling agents for use in foodstuffs; and Council Directive 78/663/EEC of 25 July 1978 laying down specific criteria of purity for emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners and gelling agents for use in foodstuffs.
