Abstract
This Law, divided into four parts, concerns constitution, preservation and control of grazing reserves in the Kwara State. The Law defines the following relevant terms: community; State Commissioner responsible for animal and forest resources; enclave, as an area completely surrounded by a grazing reserve and excluded from that grazing reserve; grazing reserve; Hardo, as the head of the cattle rearers in the district; lands at the disposal of the Government; specified animal, as horse, ass, swine, cow, or trade animal when led in a string. The Law covers the following matters: land which may be constituted reserves; notification of the intention to create reserves and appointment of reserve settlement officers; duties of reserve settlement officers; judicial powers of reserve settlement officers; inquiries; order constituting the grazing reserve; power of the Commissioner to close rights of way and watercourse; extinguishment of rights over land; compensation; rights in reserves may not be alienated without consent of Commissioner; acquisition of new rights; power to de-reserve; functions of the division in relation to the grazing reserves; constitution of local government grazing reserves; extinguishment of rights in local government grazing reserve; unlawful grazing and damage to crops; prohibition of contrary activities and the use of any dangerous substance.
