National Park Service Act.

This Act provides for the establishment of the National Park Service and for the management of national parks.
The Act consists of 53 sections divided into 7 Parts: Establishment of the National Park Service of Nigeria and its Governing Board (I); Objectives, functions and powers (II); Staff of Service (III); Establishment, Management, etc. of National Parks (IV); Management principles, etc. of National Parks (V); Offences and penalties (VI); Miscellaneous (VII).
The Service is established under section 1 as a body corporate. It shall pursue the objectives set out in section 6 and carry out the functions set out in section 7, including the management and conservation of wild fauna and flora in national parks. There shall be appointed a Conservator- General of the National Parks Service under section 9. The Service shall establish and maintain a Fund pursuant to section 12. National parks may be established by the Head of State pursuant to section 18. The procedure for establishment set out in section 19 includes the drafting of an environmental impact assessment report. For each park a National Parks Management Committee shall be established pursuant to section 21, and a Director appointed by the Service (sect. 24). The Committee shall prepare a management plan for each national park (sect. 27) and the Service shall develop a system plan which shall include the objectives of the network of National Parks. Part VI lays down restrictions on hunting, fishing, etc. in National Parks (sect. 30).
