Abstract
This Act provides among other things, for the establishment of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, the administration of maritime safety and security maritime labour, pollution of the marine environment, shipping registration and commercial shipping. The Act also establishes the Maritime Fund for the support of objectives and functions of the Agency.
The Agency shall develop and control shipping, control and prevent marine pollution and carry out other functions as specified in this Act. The Agency, through the Nigerian Ship Registration Office and the Registrar of Ships, shall be responsible for the registration of ships in accordance with provisions of this Act. The Agency shall also make Regulations concerning marine pollution. The Act defines offences and prescribes penalties for such offences.
