Decree No. 1163 of 1999 to regulate supervision and control of the importation and exportation and transit of food and products of animal origin from third countries.

This Decree provides for the control on goods made from animals including food imported from countries other than those being members of the European Economic Area, for purposes of protecting the health of man and animals, and to safeguard the external and intrinsic quality of those goods.
The Decree consists of 25 sections divided into 9 Chapters: Scope, application sphere, and definitions (I); General provisions (II); Particular provisions relative to import and other matters (III); Transhipment and forwarding of goods (IV); Transit through the European Economic Area (V); Provisions regarding import duties and free zones (VI); Re-importation of goods that have been rejected by third countries (VII); Measures (VIII); Administrative provisions (IX).
Article 2 defines the application sphere of the Decree. Importers shall be registered with supervising authorities pursuant to article 4.
