Abstract
The Decree provides for the following matters in respect of fishing for cod north of the 62nd parallel: a general prohibition to fishing for cod or land cod north of 62 by Norwegian vessels is laid down in article 1. It shall apply also to experimental fishing. However a total quota of 151.907 tons may be fished divided by Group I and Group II. The division of Group I is as follows: 17.820 tons of cod for vessels of a total length under 10 meters, 46.145 tons of cod for vessels of a total length under 15 meters, 32.809 tons of cod for vessels of a total length under 21 meters, and 21.243 tons for vessels of a total length of not more than 28 meters. Quotas assigned to other states are not included in the total catch. Vessels shall be registered and the owner and captain of the vessel shall be included in the Fishermen's Census. The individual quota varies from 6 to 40 tons depending upon the length of the vessel, however, this may be changed by the Director of Fisheries. Apart from catch quotas established by the present Decree, article 8 allows for fishing of maximum 25 percent of cod as bycatch. (20 articles divided into 6 Chapters)
