Decree No. 194 of 1997 relative to disinfecting and cleaning aquaculture facilities.

This Decree aims at limiting the risk if transmitting infectious diseases affecting aquatic organisms by providing rules for disinfecting of aquaculture installations. Disinfecting shall be done in such a way as to prevent the spreading of infectious diseases and to limit effects on the environment. It applies to disinfecting and cleaning operations of facilities used for fish farming and processing, transportation of fish and importation of fish (sect. 2).
The Decree consists of 19 sections divided into 4 Chapters: Scope, application sphere and definitions (I); Approval of chemical disinfecting materials (II); Carrying out of disinfecting and cleaning (III); Final provisions (IV).
Upon application, the State Medicine Control Agency may approve the use of disinfecting substances (sect. 5). Chapter III lays down rules relative to the cleaning or disinfecting of floating installations, walls, floors and other parts of premises, equipment, transport units, dams and transport channels, and sludge, and other waste. The State Animal Health Control Office shall issue further instructions regarding hygiene in aquaculture installations.
