Abstract
This Decree consists of 23 sections, divided into 5 Chapters: Scope, sphere of application and definitions (I); Provisions on operation and fitting out of slaughterhouses (II); Unloading, leading, and keeping of animals (III); Tying, stupefying, killing of animals and blood-letting (IV); Administrative provisions (V).
This Decree sets out requirements for the treatment of animals which are destined to slaughter. As a general rule, the animals shall be treated so as to avoid unnecessary suffering or pain. It covers the slaughtering of all animals. The State Food Control Office shall issue permits for the establishment of slaughterhouses in accordance with section 5. Sections 6 and 7 specify requirements regarding equipment used and qualifications of persons involved in slaughtering.
