Abstract
This Agreement between, on the one side, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Ministry of Children and Family Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Care Services, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, and, on the other side, the Norwegian food industry, seeks to promote a better use of resources and raw materials through the prevention of food waste throughout the food chain and to contribute to reducing the environmental consequences associated with food production and consumption in Norway. Based on the United Nations' sustainability target 12.3, an overall target of a 50% reduction in food waste in Norway is set by 2030. The reduction target of 50% by 2030 will be accomplished in two sub-targets of 15% reduction by 2020 and 30% by 2025. For these purposes, the Agreement lays down a working definition of food waste. The Agreement is open for other relevant industry organizations to join at a later date, and progress shall be evaluated in 2020, 2025 and 2030.
