Abstract
This Regulation provides rules for the international trade in live pigs between Norway and other members states of the EEA and Norway and third countries. The purpose of this Regulation is to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in connection with the import and export of live pigs. The Regulations applies to animal health conditions for import and export within the EEA and import and transit of live pigs from approved third States, with the exception of wild boars.
For trade within the EEA, The animals must: 1) undergo an identity check and clinical examination conducted by a public veterinarian over the past 24 years; hours before shipment. The animals should not show clinical signs of disease during the examination, 2) not be slaughtered or subject to animal health restrictions relating to pigs; 3) not come from an operating unit or area subject to animal health restrictions relating to pigs; 4) be marked in accordance with applicable regulations. It is prohibited to send animals vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease from one EEA country to another. Specific additional conditions are set out for live pigs intended for production or breeding and live pigs intended for slaughter. It shall be prohibited to send animals vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease from one EEA country to another.
Only pigs from approved third countries or territories of third countries listed in the list of Regulation No. 1137 of 2010 may be imported into Norway. This Regulation in detail lays down requirements regarding health certificates for imported animals.
