Ozone Layer Protection Act 1996 (No. 40 of 1996).

This Act, consisting of 5 Parts and three Schedules, aims at protecting the environment from adverse effects resulting from human activities which modify or are likely to modify the ozone layer, eliminating ozone depleting substances as soon as possible except for essential uses, and at giving effect to New Zealand's obligations under the Convention and the Protocol.
It shall be prohibited to import or export substances and goods which may be harmful to the ozone layer unless the Minister of Commerce grants an exemption from any prohibition. The text lays down provisions for the accreditation of persons handling ozone depleting substances. The Act also includes provisions on powers of inspection, offences, penalties, and provisions of miscellaneous nature. Schedules 2 and 3 list Acts and Regulations that have been repealed.
