Abstract
Exportation of a specimen listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) requires an export permit to be issued by the designated Management Authority, except that exemptions and other special provisions relating to trade set out in Article VII of the Convention shall, with the necessary modifications, be deemed to form part of this Act (sects. 3 and 14). The Management Authority shall check on criteria set out in section 4 before granting an export permit. Section 5 concerns importation of specimen listed in Appendix I of CITES, whereas section 6 concerns re-exportation. An Appendix I specimen shall not be introduced from the sea unless a certificate to do so issued by the Management Authority has been obtained. Section 7 sets out the criteria that must have been met in order to issue a certificate. Sections 8 to 11 regulate the trade (exportation, re-exportation, importation) in specimen listed in Appendix II of CITES and their introduction from the sea. Again a permit or certificate is required and criteria for obtaining a permit or certificate are defined. Section 12 concerns exportation of specimen listed in Appendix III of CITES and section 13 concerns their importation. Sections 15 and 16 define offences and section 17 grant regulation-making powers to the Head of State. (17 sections completed by 1 Schedule)
