Abstract
This Act consists of 49 sections and 4 Schedules and aims to protect, preserve, conserve, and manage wildlife and to ensure the well-being of animals and their habitats. The Government shall establish the Punjab Wildlife Management Board (sects. 5 to 8). Restrictions on hunting are provided for in section 9. Furthermore, it shall be prohibited to use hawks or dogs without a special licence (sect. 10). Sections 11 to 15 set out provisions on the possession of wild animals, trophies or meat. These include: certificates of lawful possession; transfer restrictions; import and export restrictions; trade restrictions. The Government may declare any area under its property or over which it has proprietary rights to be a wildlife sanctuary, a national park or a game reserve. Unless in possession of a special authorization, the acts provided for in sections 16 to 19 shall be prohibited in the aforementioned areas. Final provisions concern offences and relevant penalties to be applied in case of contravention. The Government may make rules for the purposes of implementing the provisions of this Act.

Consolidated version of the Punjab Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Act, 1974 as amended last by the Punjab Wildlife (protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) (Amendment) Act, 2023.The Punjab Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Ordinance, 1973 shall be repealed.
