Abstract
The National Waste Management Plan contains a country-specific analysis of the state of waste management in Poland. It includes forecasts of changes, indication of goals, and directions of activities in the field of waste management. The aim of the Plan is to: (1) strive to achieve the level of recycling and preparation for reuse of paper, metals, plastics and glass from municipal waste streams at 55 percent for 2025 and 65 percent for 2035; (2) minimize landfilled waste to 30 percent in 2025 and 10 percent in 2035; (3) support activities in the field of product reuse, broadly understood waste prevention, with particular emphasis on waste prevention of food; (4) ensure maintenance of efficiency levels of recycling used batteries and accumulators; (5) achieve an appropriate level of recovery and recycling of waste generated from products, including packaging waste, used tires, waste oils.
The objectives and tasks presented in the Plan concern the years 2023–2028, but prospectively cover the period until 2035. Appropriate measures have been identified to achieve the objectives set out in the Plan, such as: (1) educational and informational activities on waste prevention and counteracting littering; (2) supporting the development of infrastructure for waste prevention and waste recycling; (3) assessing the need to create additional infrastructure for waste prevention and recycling; (4) supporting research into new technologies in the field of waste prevention and waste management; (5) recommended activities concerning critical raw materials and counteracting littering of the marine and terrestrial environment.
