Abstract
This Decree-Law establishes the regime for the use of sewage sludge in agricultural soils, transposing Council Directive 86/278/EEC of 12 June into the National legislation, in order to avoid harmful effects to human beings, for water, soils, plants and animals, promoting their correct use. It applies to the use, in agricultural soils, of sewage sludge originating from domestic wastewater treatment plants, urban waste, agro-livestock activities, septic tanks or others of similar composition. Sludge storage and treatment operations are licensed under the terms of articles 27 to 31 of the general waste management regime, approved by Decree-Law No. 178/2006 of 5 September.
