Abstract
This Decree-Law amends and consolidates Decree-Law No. 278/87 on the legal framework governing fishing and mariculture activities in Portuguese territorial waters and establishes new offences and penalties for fishing and mariculture illegal activities. The purpose of this Decree-Law is to regulate the practice of sea fishing and the cultivation of marine species in order to ensure the sustainable management and use of wildlife resources by defining appropriate measures for the conservation and long-term preservation of the flora in waters under Portuguese sovereignty and jurisdiction and which are or will be the subject of exploitation by fishing or marine species cultivation for purposes which are not only commercial, but also scientific. It regulates fishing activity, restrictions, mariculture requirements, registration conditions, controls and inspection, etc.
