Abstract
This Decree-Law establishes the institutional organisation of the wine sector and regulates the recognition, protection and control of designations of origin (DO) and geographical indications (GI) for wines, vinegars, spirits of vinous origin and aromatized wine products. It also establishes the system for recognising inter-professional organizations (IOs) in the wine sector and their respective self-regulation instruments. This decree-law applies to all DOs and GIs in the wine sector existing in Portugal. Without prejudice to the competences of the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho, I.P. (IVV, I.P.). (IVV, I. P.), as the contact body with the European Union, the provisions of this Decree-Law shall apply to the Douro Demarcated Region and the Autonomous Regions in compliance with the special rules laid down in the legislation, statutes and regulations and arising from the competences of the managing body and certifying body of the respective DOs and GIs.
