Law No. 17/2014 establishing the Policy on the National Maritime Areas Planning and Management.

This Law, consisting of 4 Chapters divided into 34 articles, establishes the basis for policy Planning and Management of the National Maritime Areas, as follows. This policy defines and integrates the actions promoted the Portuguese State to ensure proper organization and use of national maritime space in perspective of their valorisation and protection, having as objective to contribute to sustainable development of the country. This Law does not apply to activities solely aimed at defending national or internal security of the Portuguese State. the Government acts in accordance with the principles and objectives of the planning and management of National Maritime space and respective complementary legislation.
