Abstract
This Government Decision regulates the conditions for the introduction on the market of batteries and accumulators that contain dangerous substances, as well as the methods of management of used batteries and accumulators, in order to ensure the conditions of environmental protection and the health of the population. It is forbidden to introduce on the market batteries and/or accumulators that contain more than 0.0005% mercury by weight, including the cases where these batteries and accumulators are incorporated into devices. Natural and legal persons are prohibited from: (a) abandoning used batteries and accumulators or their solid components; (b) spilling the electrolyte from used motor vehicle accumulators on the ground, in the surface water, underground water, the territorial sea and in the sewage systems; and (c) damage the casings of used batteries and accumulators. Natural and legal persons who own means of transport or machinery equipped with batteries and/or accumulators for motor vehicles have the obligation to hand over used batteries and/or accumulators with the electrolyte and solid components contained to legal persons who sell batteries and/or or accumulators for motor vehicles or to legal entities that carry out their collection or recovery activity.
