Government Decision No. 1.415 on the organization and functioning of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, and its subordinated units.

This Government Decision, consisting of 21 articles and 3 Annexes, regulates the National Sanitary and Veterinary and Food Safety Authority. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Authority, organized and operating as a specialized body of central public administration, with legal, regulatory authority and control in the field of veterinary and food safety subordinated to the Government and coordinated by the Minister of agriculture and rural development. The Authority is represented at the county level departments, local and regional districts on matters related to veterinary and food safety issues. The scope of the Authority aims at ensuring and guaranteeing animal health, public health, animal welfare, environmental protection and food safety. To achieve its objectives, the Authority shall exercise the following functions: a) implementing regulation, in accordance with national strategies and specific activities in the field of veterinary and food safety, in compliance with national and European legislation; b) control, supervision and enforcement through related regulations; c) strategy in accordance with Government policy and international strategies, evaluation, analysis, risk management and research projects at national and European level with regard to this field of activity; d) administration subordinated structures, which ensures the coordination and management of services for which the state is responsible in the veterinary and food safety, etc.
