Government Decision No. 738 on the organization and functioning of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, and its subordinated units.

The present Decision makes provision on the organization and functioning of the National Sanitary and Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, which shall be competent in the field of animal health and food safety matters. The Authority, which shall perform its tasks under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development, shall be responsible for defining the national strategy aimed at ensuring animal health and protection, environment protection and food safety. Article 3 defines with detail the functions that the Authority shall perform both in the animal health field and in matters of food safety. In addition, article 14 concerns the organization of the Rapid Alert System for the notification of risks to public health or animal health. Annex 2 lays down the list of units subordinated to the National Sanitary and Veterinary and Food Safety Authority.
