Abstract
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development is a specialized body of the central public administration, with legal personality, in subordination to the Government, the central public authority responsible for the elaboration, regulation and implementation of community and national agricultural policies and the development, on modern bases, of its fields of activity. The Ministry applies the Government Program, develops policies and adopts national sectoral strategies in its fields of activity: agriculture and food production, rural development, fishing and aquaculture, forestry, land improvement, optimization of farms and soil conservation, specialized scientific and phytosanitary research. The objectives of the Ministry are the following: (a) ensuring food security by increasing agricultural production; (b) absorption of community funds intended to finance specific areas; (c) stimulation of transformation of peasant households in modern commercial agricultural holdings, the formation and consolidation of the middle class in rural areas; (d) financial and fiscal support of agriculture through multi-annual programs; (e) increasing the added value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products; (f) accelerating the process of rural development; (g) management of the land improvement infrastructure of public utility; and (h) the expansion of forest areas in Romania and the development of fish farming; and (i) the reform of administrative structures with its sphere of competence in the field of agriculture.
