Abstract
Article 29 of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation on Wildlife (No. 52-FZ of 1995) classifies zoological collections as one of the types of biological collections. The procedure for the composition, storage, use of zoological collections is determined by the federal executive body of the Government of the Russian Federation. The identification of the scientific, cultural, other particular value of the zoological collection and the possibility of classification thereof as zoological collections to be considered as such by the State, as well as the possibility of including living zoo collections of zoos, circuses, zootheatres, dolphinaris, oceaniums in the register of zoological collections, is carried out by an expert group on zoological collections. The composition and modalities of the expert group on zoological collections are approved by the competent federal executive body authorized by the Government of the Russian Federation to carry out federal State environmental control (supervision). Public records of zoological collections are maintained by providing data on zoological collections to the register of zoological collections, with the exception of zoological collections included in the Russian Federation Museum Fund.
