Abstract
According to this Federal Law, wildlife is considered the national property of the peoples of the Russian Federation, indefeasible element of the natural habitat, environment and biodiversity of the Land. It is a regenerating natural resource and an important regulating and stabilising component of biosphere, that is under protection and is destined for rational use for the purpose of satisfaction of spiritual and material needs of the Russian nationals. This Law consists of X Chapters that contain 61 articles.
Chapter I establishes general provisions. Chapter II regards state management and use of wildlife species. Chapter III deals with the protection of wildlife species and their natural habitat. Chapter IV specifies the rights and the duties of officials entitled to carry out the protection of wildlife species and their natural habitat. Chapter V regards the modalities of use of wildlife species. Chapter VI defines the traditional methods of protection and use of the wildlife species. Chapter VII concerns economic regulation of protection and use of the wildlife species. Chapter VIII establishes the liability for the infringement of Russian legislation in the field of protection and use of the wildlife species. Chapter IX regards international agreements and establishes that in case of contradiction of this Law to an international agreement, signed by the Russian Federation, the latter has the supremacy. Chapter X regards the modalities of implementation of this Federal Law.

Unofficial translation. This Federal Law repeals Law of the RSFSR of 1982 "On protection and use of wildlife". The abbreviation RSFSR stands for Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. The Russian Federation is the successor of the RSFSR. The President of the Russian Federation is requested and the Government of the Russian Federation is authorised to bring their legal acts into conformity with this Federal Law.
