Abstract
State monitoring of wildlife is part of state environmental monitoring and is a system of regular observations of the distribution, abundance, physical condition of wildlife, their use, as well as the structure, quality, and area of their habitat. The State Wildlife Register contains a collection of information on the geographic distribution of wildlife, their population sizes, as well as habitat characteristics, information on the use of wildlife, and other necessary data. State monitoring and the state register of wildlife are conducted for wildlife not classified as game resources or aquatic biological resources. State monitoring and the state register of wildlife, with the exception of wildlife located in specially protected natural areas of federal significance, are carried out by executive authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation exercising powers delegated by the Russian Federation in the area of wildlife conservation and use. The scope of activities carried out within the framework of state monitoring and the state register of wildlife species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and the Red Books of constituent entities of the Russian Federation is determined based on the established status categories of the wildlife species, the available reliable scientific information, scientific estimates of their abundance and distribution, and the possibility of regularly updating them based on data from scientific organizations.
