Abstract
This Act prescribes various measures and obligations with respect to diseased animals and the prevention of diseases affecting animals.
An inspector, appointed for purposes of this Act, may declare places and areas to be infected with an animal disease. Any diseased or infected animal or any animal suspected of being diseased may be destroyed by specified public authorities and compensation for destroyed animals shall be paid. A person in charge of a diseased animal shall separate such animal from other animals and report the disease to specified authorities. The Act further: (a) regulates the disposal of carcases of diseased animals, the movement of animals into, within, or out of infected place or area and powers of owners of diseased animals and authorized officers; (b) prescribes offences and penalties; (c) grants regulation-making powers to the Minister; and (d) allows the Government to establish places for the reception of foreign animals, carcases, fittings, fodder and other potentially harmful material. Furthermore, Section 11 underlines that removing any dairy produce of any diseased or infected animal from any infected area is prohibited, without the written authority of an inspector and except on such conditions as may be prescribed by the inspector.
