Abstract
This Decree, based principally on Chapter 5 of the Environmental Code, concerns the quality of Swedish marine waters. It provides rules relative to an ecosystem-responsible administration and sustainable use of the marine environment as in accordance with Directive 2008/56/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for community action in the field of marine environmental policy (Marine Strategy Framework Directive).The Swedish marine waters (as defined by this Decree), shall be divided into two administrative areas: the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The Nature Protection Agency shall be the principal authority for purposes of management and conservation of the marine environment.
The Agency shall develop and monitor quality norms and establish (supervision) programmes for these purposes. Further rules, including rules concerning environment impact assessment, shall be drafted in accordance with European legislation.
