Abstract
The present Regulation, adopted by the Swedish Food Agency, contains 35 articles and lays down rules for the production, handling and quality of drinking water. Drinking water refers to all water that is intended or can reasonably be expected to be consumed by humans, including spring water, from the point where it is introduced into waterworks. The regulations shall not apply to natural mineral water. The Regulation applies to operators who, on average, produce or provide at least 10 m3 of drinking water per day or supply at least 50 people with drinking water. Drinking water provided as part of a commercial or public activity is always covered by the Regulation.
The Regulation contains the following sections: i) Scope of application; ii) Words and expressions; iii) Quality requirements; iv) General rules on hygiene, hazard analysis and control points; v) Processing chemicals and filter materials; vi) Monitoring programs; v) Moniting; vi) Investigations and measures; vii) Information; and viii) Exceptions.
As a general rule, water shall be wholesome and clean, meaning: 1) it does not contain microorganisms, parasites and substances in such numbers or concentrations to pose a potential risk to human health; and 2) it meets the value limits specified in Appendix 1.
