Abstract
This Regulation completes and implements provisions of the Food Act of 2006. It grants powers to the National Food Authority to regulate various matters relating to food quality and hygiene, assigns duties to the Authority as indicated in various EC Directives and duties of inspection, accreditation, control and enforcement to the Authority and other (local) public bodies and requires the Government to indicate EC legislation that shall complete provisions of the Food Act in Sweden.
The Food Authority shall, among other things, regulate: (a) the quality of drinking water; (b) ionising radiation of food; (c) importation and placing on the market of food in general; (d) advertisement and labelling of food; and (e) hygienic handling of food. The Authority and municipal authorities shall cooperate in the registration of food establishments.
The Authority shall carry out various other tasks indicated in specified Regulations of the Commission, European Parliament and/or Council, notably Regulation (EC) No. 882/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council on official controls performed to ensure the verification of compliance with feed and food law, animal health and animal welfare rules.
