Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to ensure a high level of safety regarding health of human beings in relation with food. The Act shall complete provisions of basic EC legislation in this field and in particular Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety. The Act shall apply to all stages of the food production, processing and distribution chain. The Act grants ample regulation-making powers to the Government in the field of food hygiene and safety, marking and presentation of food. The Government may delegate regulation-making powers to authorities to be indicated by the Government. Powers of control and inspection are assigned to the National Food Authority and local authorities.
