Regulation (2018: 1462) on producer responsibility for packaging.

This Regulation, made under the Swedish Environmental Code, lays down rules on the use of packaging by producers and define their responsibility in this respect. The purpose of this Regulation is to: a) Reduce the amount of packaging waste by ensuring that the manufacturing of packaging in such a manner that their volume and weight are reduced to it level required to maintain a good level of safety and hygiene, and that packaging is used only when necessary; b) Limit the harm to the environment of materials and substances in packaging; c) compel producers to provide or join a collective scheme that takes operational action and financial responsibility for collecting and processing packaging waste; d) ensure that packaging waste is taken care of in a healthy and environmentally acceptable manner; and (e) reach the recycling targets set out in this Regulation.
