Abstract
This Act is divided into the following Parts: Preliminary (I); Establishment, Incorporation and Constitution of Authority (II); Functions and Powers of Authority (III); Provisions Relating to Staff (IV); Financial Provisions (V); Transfer of Property, Assets Liabilities and Employees (VI); Miscellaneous (VII).
The Act provides for the establishment of the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority. It defines the Authority's internal organization and its powers and functions, which include: regulate the safety and wholesomeness of food for supply to Singapore; promote and regulate animal and fish health, animal welfare and plant health; promote, facilitate and regulate the production, processing and trade of food and products related to the agri-food and veterinary sectors; control and manage pests and diseases of animals, birds, plants, fish, reptiles, amphibians, molluscs, crustaceans, or any form of aquatic life, including their young and eggs; and inspect, test and certify any food related to or connected with the agri-food and veterinary sectors.
