Abstract
This Law determines the manner and related issues as regards forest management, here aimed only for forests and forest land owned by the Republic of Slovenia. These rules are stipulated in order to achieve economic and development goals and to implement the targeted public interest objectives in such forest management, also in order to create the necessary conditions for the sustainable development of state owned forests, and to offer the possibility to restore such state forests. The management of state forests must be handled economically, efficiently and in such a way that the objectives and other regulations governing forests, environmental protection and nature conservation are respected and achieved.
This text is divided into ten main Chapters and 52 articles. The titles of Chapters are as follows: (I) General provisions; (II) Management of state forests; (III) Slovenian State Forest Company; (IV) Management of national forests and purchase of forests; (V) Management of national forests; (VI) Operating transparency and external control; (VII) Budgetary funds for forests; (VIII) Data; (IX) Municipalities right to work in summertime refund; and (X) Transitional and final provisions.
This Law further governs and regulates: basic principles and specific goals of state owned forest management; issues regarding the task and responsibilities of the Slovenian State Forest Company, including internal and external controls, inspections and surveys; procedures and restrictions on the disposal of state forests; manner of acquiring forests; manner of managing of annual compensations; functional linkage between state forests and other land parcels in order to ensure the implementation of comprehensive management of the entire forest land; forest budget fund, and several rules on the distribution of incomes; collection and use of related data; rights of interested municipalities; and other administrative and technical details, all in scope of issues related to the management of state owned forests and forest land present on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.
Main objectives of state forest management are: achievement of the highest possible yield and quality of forest wood assortments, taking into account the principles of sustainable, multi-functional and sustainable management of state forests; contribution to the establishment and development of forest-timber chains, the promotion of timber and timber products and the creation of green jobs; long-term increment of the area of state forests; contribution to the achievement of the objectives of rural development, in particular the conservation of farms and rural areas in a mountainous areas with limited economic opportunities; contribution to the achievement of nature conservation objectives, in particular the achievement of the objectives of Natura 2000 (in relation to protected sites and protected areas); improvement of the training of professional staff in the field of forests, forestry and timber, support education and scientific research; carrying out the sale of hive wood to a minimum (apiculture protection interest issue).

Entry into force notes
This Law enters into force on the day following its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia. The provisions of articles 19 to 29, 34, 35, 36, 46, 47 and 48 shall apply from 1 July 2016.
