Abstract
This Regulation, based on the provisions of the Ionizing radiation protection and nuclear safety Act, determines the: classification of radioactive waste according to the level and type of radioactivity; written procedures, a radioactive waste or spent fuel management programme and a radioactive waste management plan; sorting, processing and packaging, labelling, storage, warehousing, aging, delivery and acceptance, and transport of radioactive waste or spent fuel; release of liquid or gaseous radioactive waste; disposal of radioactive waste; acceptance criteria for acceptance for storage and disposal; specific requirements for waste management in the extraction and processing of nuclear minerals and very low-level radioactive waste; and records of holders, central records of radioactive waste and spent fuel, communication of data to the central records. Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation, and repealing Directives 89/618/Euratom, 90/641/Euratom, 96/29/Euratom, 97/43/Euratom and 2003/122/Euratom and Council Directive 2011/70/Euratom establishing a Community framework for the responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste are here transposed.
