Abstract
This Decree, implementing provisions of article 7 of the Maritime Security Act, 2004, establishes composition and working methods of the Maritime Security Council. The Decree specifies the following tasks of the Council: promoting maritime safety and security and fire protection of the Surinamese maritime infrastructure, including ports, shipping and offshore installation; advising the President of the Republic of Suriname regarding the measures to be taken within the framework of the Maritime Security Act, to guarantee maritime safety in Suriname; advising the Government of the Republic of Suriname regarding the establishment and the increase of maritime safety levels; co-developing policy and strategies in the field of maritime security; collecting, analysing, and sharing information regarding maritime security risks, such as terrorism, piracy, smuggling, sabotage, environmental crimes, or cyber threats.
