Law No. 7/04 approving the Social Protection Framework.

This Law, consisting of 70 articles divided into eight Chapters, approves the Social Protection Framework. This framework stipulates that social protection aims at mitigating the effects of reducing the income of workers in situations of lack or reduction of work capacity, maternity, old age and ensure the survival of their families, in the event of death, at least partially compensate for the increase in the burdens inherent in family situations of particular fragility or dependency, and seek to provide means of subsistence for the resident population in need and their insertion into the community, as far as the economic and social development of the Country.
This Law is divided as follows: General provisions (Chap. I); Social protection and citizenship (Chap. II); Mandatory Social protection (Chap. III); Complementary Social protection (Chap. IV); Financing and Financial management (Chap. V); Organization and Participation (Chap. VI); Guarantees and Disputes (Chap. VII); Final and transitional provisions (Chap. VIII).
