Abstract
This Notification provides for the requirements and rules to be satisfied by edible salt.
In the Notification, edible salt means sodium chloride used in food or used as a mixture or an ingredient in food. Edible salt is a prescribed food to have qualities or standards (Clause 2). Edible salt shall have iodine content not less than 20 mg and not more than 40 mg per 1 kg of edible salt. Manufacturers of edible salt for sale shall follow hygienic condition as prescribed in the Ministerial Regulation No.1 (B.E.2522)(1979) and shall have process control for iodine addition or mixing in order to have uniform iodine dispersion. The Notification further makes provision for the labelling of edible salt.
