Abstract
Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is the central executive body of state power ensuring the implementation of state policy in the field of environmental protection. The Committee shall have the following powers: (a) promotion of state environmental policy; (b) performance of state control over environmental protection and rational nature management; (c) performance of environmental audit and issuance of substantiated scientifically based conclusions; (d) licensing of activities pertaining to its competence; (e) management of protected areas; (f) performance of ecological monitoring; (g) environmental scientific research; (g) performance of the arrangements for the improvement of the state of environment; (h) elaboration of environmental programs, concepts, strategies and action plans; (i) elaboration of new economic mechanisms of rational nature management; (j) improvement of early warning system; (k) provision of state bodies, natural persons and legal entities with ecological information; (l) promotion of ecological tourism and education; and (m) assistance in constituting special environmental funds.
