Law No.905 of 1993 on environmental protection.

The present Law, together with organizational, legal, economic and educational arrangements is aimed at promoting formation and strengthening of ecological legislation and regulations, environmental protection in the interests of the present and the future generations and ensuring ecological safety on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan. The document consists of XVI Sections that contain 89 Articles. Sec.I (arts. 1-9) lays down general provisions. Sec.II (Arts.10-13) regards the right of citizens to healthy and favourable environment. Sec.III (Arts.14-22) establishes economic mechanism of environmental protection. Sec.IV (Arts.23-32) regards environmental standards. Sec.V (Arts.33-37) regards state ecological expertise. Sec.VI (Arts.38-42) establishes ecological requirements for distribution, projecting, construction, re-construction and putting into operation of enterprises, constructions and other objects. Sec.VII (Arts.43-53) establishes ecological requirements for running enterprises, constructions, other objects and carrying out other types of activity. Sec.VIII (Arts.54-57) regards ecological emergencies. Sec.IX (Arts.58-63) regards protected areas. Sec.X (Arts.64-68) regards control in the field of environmental protection. Sec.XI (Arts.69-72) regards participation of the population in the field of environmental protection. Sec.XII (Arts.73-77) regards ecological upbringing, education and research. Sec.XIII (art. 78) regards dispute settlement. Sec.XIV (Arts.79-81) establishes liability for the infringement of environmental legislation. Sec.XV (Arts.82-87) regards compensation of damage. Sec.XVI (Arts.88-89) regards international cooperation.
