Abstract
This Decree-Law establishes the basic legislation for the organization, monitoring, inspection and promotion of tourist activities. It applies to tourism activities in the public and private sectors, consumers of tourism products and service providers and suppliers of tourism products, and other actors in tourism activities. The Decree-Law has the following objectives: a) Boost the economic and social development of the country, respecting the forestry, fauna, mineral, archaeological and artistic heritage, which must be preserved and transmitted to future generations; b) Preserve historical and cultural values and promote national pride; c) Contribute to the harmonious and balanced development of the country; d) Contribute to job creation, economic growth and poverty alleviation; e) Encourage the national private sector to participate in the promotion and development of tourism resources; f) Establish mechanisms for participation and interinstitutional coordination; g) Promote the conservation of biodiversity and marine and terrestrial ecosystems; h) Improve the standard of living of communities, boosting their active participation in the tourism sector; j) Ensure equal rights and opportunities for all the stakeholders.
