Abstract
This Decree-Law establishes the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI). MCI is the government department responsible for the design, execution, coordination and evaluation of policies, defined and approved by the Council of Ministers, for the areas of commercial and industrial economic activities. The Ministry has the following responsibilities: a) Propose policies and draft legislation for their areas of governance; b) Design, implement and evaluate trade and industry policies; c) Contribute to boosting economic activity; d) Promote simpler and faster procedural processing; e) License installation and operation projects for commercial and industrial enterprises; f) Monitor commercial and industrial activities and undertakings; g) Manage a documentation center on commercial and industrial companies; h) Classify industrial enterprises; i) Register industrial property; j) Promote standardization and quality control; k) Establish collaboration mechanisms with national and international organizations namely with the World Trade Organization; l) Establish collaboration mechanisms with services responsible for planning and physical development of the territory, with a view to promoting strategic zones of commercial or industrial development.
