Abstract
The Act makes provision with respect to the territorial sea (Part I) and establishes an Exclusive Economic Zone of Tonga of 200 nautical miles (Part II). Provisions of Part II also regulate fishing in the EEZ by foreign vessels: Total allowable catch (sects. 10-11); catch quotas (sect. 12); licences (sects. 13-17); offences and legal proceedings (sects. 18-20); regulation making powers of the King (sect. 21), research fishing (sect. 22), enforcement (sects. 23-24), and administrative penalties (sect. 26). An Act to make provision with respect to the territorial sea of Tonga; and to establish an exclusive economic zone of Tonga adjacent to the territorial sea, and in exercise of the sovereign rights of Tonga to make provision for the exploration and exploitation, and conservation and management, of the resources of the Zone; and for matters connected with those purposes.
Entry into force notes
This Act entered into force on 1 October 2007 (LN 4/2007).
