Framework Agreement concerning the Cooperation in the field of water between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Republic of Iraq.

This Cooperation Framework Agreement serves as a basis for initiating and establishing a new approach for economic relations between the two countries and lays down a vision for implementing infrastructure projects for water resources as well as water related investment projects in Iraq. Both contracting parties agree on: (I) Turkish companies specialized in infrastructure, environment and water protection, sustainable and effective use of water resources, water desalination projects, flood and drought protection, irrigation and sewage networks, wastewater treatment and collection, purification and reuse of industrial wastewater, to participate upon invitation in the tender processes to be announced by the Republic of Iraq; (II) cooperation in the field of implementation of joint projects on the development of sustainable water management in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and their best use in various fields such as agriculture, industry, municipal and drinking water in Iraq; (III) implementation of projects in Iraq on the construction of water infrastructure and collection systems, dam safety and improvement of existing dams; and (IV) implementation of development projects in the field of modernizing irrigation systems and using closed and pressurized systems in irrigation network. A Joint High Committe shall be established to follow up the implementation of the Agreement. The Parties may make amendments to this Agreement by mutual written consent. The dispute may be solved through consultation or negotiation between the two Parties. This Agreement shall be valid for ten years and may be extended for successive period of one year unless terminated by written notice requiring six months through diplomatic channels.
