Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Republic of Gambia on cooperation in the field of fisheries development and management.

By the Decree No. 2018/11244 of the Council of Ministers of 17 January 2018, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Republic of Gambia on cooperation in the field of fisheries development and management has been approved. The Parties agree upon cooperation on (i) fishing, fish processing and marketing in partnership with private fisheries operators, (ii) aquaculture development, (iii) fish trade and investment, export of fish products, (iv) research on fisheries, and (v) sustainable management and development of fisheries resources. The Republic of Turkey shall provide assistance to the Republic of Gambia in the fields of development and strengthening of the artisanal fisheries subsector, aquaculture development and management, and fisheries research and development. Furthermore the Republic of Turkey shall provide training for fisheries governance, fisheries economics, fish breeding, hatchery management, fishing gear technology, post-harvest fisheries technology, and residue monitoring. The Parties shall develop cooperation by exchange of scientific and technical information, good practices, experts and consultants. The Parties may organize extension and training programs, meetings, fairs, seminars and symposiums. A Fisheries Steering Committee shall be established to monitor and review the implementation of the cooperation under this MoU. This MoU may be amended by mutual written consent. The dispute may be solved through consultation and negotiation. This MoU shall be valid for five years and may be extended for successive periods of five years unless terminated by written notice requiring six months.
