Abstract
By the Decree No. 2018/11780 of the Council of Ministers of 14 May 2018, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia on fisheries and aquaculture has been approved. The Parties agree upon (i) effective protection and sustainable use of aquatic resources, (ii) sustainable development in the fields of fisheries and aquaculture, and (iii) engagement of Turkish vessels in fishing activities in exclusive economic zone and territorial sea of Somalia with permission and valid fishing license. The Parties shall develop cooperation by carrying out joint projects for the development of fisheries, aquaculture and processing technologies and joint operations for the improvement of efficient control systems in fisheries, by exchange of technical information and scientific research documents, and by trade and investments on fish and fishery products. The Parties may organize training programs, fairs, symposiums, seminars and meetings. A Joint Fisheries Committee shall be established for the implementation of the MoU. The dispute may be solved by the Committee. This MoU may be amended by mutual written consent. This MoU shall be valid for five years and may be extended for successive period of five years unless terminated by written notice requiring six months.
