Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of Syrian Arab Republic in the field of efficient utilization of water resources and combating of drought.

This Memorandum of Understanding sets forth a framework for co-operation for effective utilization in water resources and combating drought. Other field of co-operation are: water treatment technologies, flood early warning systems, artificial rainmaking, drought resistant plant agriculture, elimination of plant diseases, drop irrigation, improvement of product quality, optimal use of water in irrigation, irrigation management, monitoring climate change and its effects on water resources, wastewater and the reuse of treated wastewater in agriculture and industry and drought early warning systems. The contracting parties agree to set up joint studies to prevent the loss of drinking water and to obtain healthy water, to held training programs on efficient utilization of water resources and operation of dams and to establish a joint database on hydrological and meteorological data. The parties further agree to exchange experts and trainees and to invite government agencies, academic institutions, private enterprises and NGOs in their countries, to participate in the activities within the framework of this Memorandum of Understanding . The Memorandum is valid for five years with termination rights requiring six months written notice. Each party will designate a National Coordinator to be responsible for the management of co-operation.
